Last year I was laid off from my job and this has given me a chance to reevaluate my career. Most of my adult life I've been concerned about getting a good paying job and saving for retirement, not really thinking about whether I was truly happy with my work. So I've decided to try my hand at a career that is more visually stimulating, that combines Photography, Web Development and my Engineering background.

I've always had an interest in photography. When in shopping malls or art festivals, I make it a point to stop and look at the photography and prints and try to image what it would be like to have been, at that location, at that moment in time, when the picture was taken. I've even managed to take a few photos that I'm somewhat proud of but generally my photography has been limited to a couple of times a year when I take vacation and go somewhere special, like motorcycling in the Black Hills of South Dakota or scuba diving in the Caribbean. I think it's the moments that I didn't have my camera, which pushed me into taking photography more serious.

My first camera was a birthday present from my grandparents', it was a Kodak with a mechanical lever to advance the film and disposable flash cubes. I used the camera mostly for special occasions, such as birthday parties. My interest in nature and landscapes probably comes from my Dad's National Geographic subscription. I always looked through the photographs and occasionally read the articles. In elementary school, the teachers would occasionally bring the schools' TV/VCR into class and show a National Geographic documentary.
